Dana Lind asked:

Today with the modern styles employed in car manufacturing we have so many styles and shapes to choose from. Modern looking

shapes are made possible in part because of plastic and what can be done with plastic molds!

This, of course, includes the headlight assembly for these modern styled vehicles which are made out of plastic. Over time and not

much time at that, these lenses will turn cloudy yellow and Ugly! We see this problem on vehicles as new as 2 years old!

The first question you may ask is…Why? And the second …What can I do about it?

The first answer is the lenses are very sensitive to UV damage. In fact ALL vehicle manufacturers use a UV protective Clear Coat on

your painted surfaces of your vehicle!! Why is this?

Because if they didn’t your paint would do the same thing these lenses do!

This was one of the problems of old “single stage” paints used on vehicles as little as 20 years ago and back. These coatings had a

very short “ life.”

To illustrate one of the draw backs to “single stage” paints like lacquers you could literally come back 25 years after the car has been

painted and wipe the paint off with a lacquer soaked rag!!!

In fact don’t try wiping your lenses with any solvent, like lacquer thinner or similar chemical! However, lacquer thinner will not harm

your Clear Coat on your car.

That’s because they are activated products which requiring mixing with a catalyst to make them harden. This formulation makes the UV

protection possible.

The manufacturers could include a UV protective coating on the lenses but they are satisfied with the life of the lenses and do not

want to add to the production cost of these lenses!

So we are stuck with finding our own solution for headlight restoration. In fact this is how our Headlight Restoration Kit was born! My

car dealers which we serviced were constantly asking me if I could do anything with these yellowed and cloudy lenses.

Since we run a long term service for the dealers we had to find a lasting solution for headlight lens restoration. And since there is SO

MUCH competition in my field we needed it to produce the very best results possible.

We experimented and found a solution that’s works extremely well and works 100% of the time on every lens and on every make or

model that suffers from this common problem.

This led to the creation of our famous headlight restoration kit!

Audi headlights yellow, fogged - what to clean?

S S asked:

When a headlight is yellow, fogged, or discolored, is it the outside or the inside of the headlight? I want to clean my headlights, but I’m not too sure whether cleaning the outside of the headlight is enough. Does fogging, discoloration also incur on the inside of the headlight? If so, is it common when people clean their car headlights to clean both the inside and the outside? The inside would require removal of the headlight assembly. Thanks.

Auto inspection is the term commonly used to mean vehicle inspection covering automobiles and trucks. There are several reasons why a vehicle undergoes auto inspection. One is when this is required by law. Another is when a vehicle is being sold as a used automobile or truck and the buyer requests the auto inspection. Finally, it is recommended that a vehicle owner bring his or her own automobile or truck for auto inspection by a highly skilled automotive mechanic every year or two as part of preventive maintenance. Tampa vehicle owners should take note of this.

Auto Safety Inspection Required By Law

The law requires auto safety inspection to make certain that vehicles are road worthy, preventing harm to the drivers, passengers, the other people on the road and even the environment. There are specific automotive shops that are licensed to perform such required auto inspections, with specially trained vehicle inspectors.

Auto safety inspection covers the vehicle’s brakes, tires, engine, transmission system, muffler, horn, lights, mirrors, windshield, windshield wipers and window glass. To pass clean air inspection, the vehicle’s emission control system is checked and the chemical content of its exhaust is tested.

Failure to pass any of the safety tests means the automobile or truck needs to undergo immediate repair and another round of tests.

To pass, vehicle owners should ensure the following before bringing the vehicle for auto safety inspection.

All tires, including the spare tire, should be in good condition with no bulges, bald areas, cuts or any fabric showing. Tread depth around the tire circumference and across 75% of tire breadth should be no less than one millimeter.

There should be no leaks at all, whether of gasoline or any other fluid.

The brakes should be working properly and should be able to stop the vehicle within 50 feet when running at 25 miles an hour.

There should be no leaks in the exhaust system and the sound of engine exhaust has to be effectively reduced by the muffler.

The horn should be in good working condition, as do the lights, including headlights, parking lights, turn signals and license plate lights.

The windshield should be made of clear glass and any tint should be only a strip of not more than four inches from the top of the windshield. The windshield wipers and their rubber blades should be working properly.

The mirrors should provide clear views of the rear and sides of the vehicle.

All glass used in windows should have no holes, breaks or cracks. Tinting is allowed by law only up to 35%.

Pre-Sale Auto Inspection of Used Vehicles

The type of auto inspection required by buyers of used vehicles is meant to ensure that the vehicle is a worthy purchase. The buyer needs to trust the mechanic who will check the vehicle’s engine, transmission system, brakes, cooling system, instrumentation, wheels, tires, body, interior, underbody and everything else for signs of damage or any impending problems. The mechanic then gives the buyer a report.

Auto Inspection for Vehicle Maintenance

Auto inspection for vehicle maintenance is a voluntary procedure by vehicle owners. This ensures that the vehicle is kept in prime condition and that any potential problems are discovered early on and are acted upon. This is not only ensures that you are able to protect your investment in the vehicle but, more importantly, prevents any future accidents caused by malfunction.

Take care of your engine and car transmission system. Follow all maintenance procedures such as truck and auto oil change. Make sure you use reliable car and truck parts such as those from AC Delco. Proper maintenance and timely auto and truck repair by a qualified automotive mechanic will ensure that your vehicle always passes any auto inspection in Tampa.

Audi repair technicians. How much does would the labor be to change the entire headlight on an Audi Quattro?

chillin asked:

I have a 2002, Audi A6 Quarttro and a year ago I had the headlight repaired because the light was out. But, I just recently noticed that the headlight is not centered in the cavity, for lack of a better term. It seems to have dropped ever so slightly from the top as if the housing let go but it still works. The price I got to repair it via an email to the dealership was $800.00 for the part and $1000.00 for the labor. Does this seem unreasonable to you? Do Audi dealerships set the rates sight unseen? I am assuming the bumper would need to be removed but this seems a little over the top. I had someone else quote a price for the headlight only and it was $450.00. Any input on this would be greatly appreciated. What does this actually entale?
Thank you in advance for your time.
Thank you for the link Ruin. It appears a snap may have been ruined when they changed the lamp or whatever was done to it the last time. It is hardly noticeable and actually took me 9 months to realize it. Or, maybe it just let go?
I am not sure, but this does give me some technical knowledge to speak with an independent mechanic. I am going to wait to see if another answer is posted.

?uv??1s?b??? ? asked:

So I’m gonna get a Headlight Restoration for my 2001 Nissan Altima. However, I was wondering if cleaning the inside would also make a difference? Or is it just mainly on the outside? I don’t see any water residue on the inside but i do see some yellowish stuff on the lens. Though I can’t tell if it’s on the inside or out. So tell me, WHEN do you know in order to clean the INSIDE of the headlights??? And what are those foggy looking yellowish thingies??

Please help me out auto geeks! Thanks =]
